Step into the lively realm of NEXTGen A2, where tradition intertwines with innovation, and the sense of community has no limits.

This past September marked a significant milestone for us as we shed our former identity as Jewish Young Professionals (JYP) and embraced the dynamic transformation into “NEXTGen of Greater Ann Arbor” or, affectionately, NEXTGen A2. Why? Well, we wanted our community to feel even more familiar, approachable, and like home. The name NEXTGen not only links us to Jewish communities across North America, but it also reflects our role as the next generation steering the ship.

We listened to your thoughts and felt the need for a change. Our previous name might’ve sounded a bit formal, maybe even a touch exclusive to those who consider themselves professionals. But truth be told, we’re not your typical professional club. We’re a mix of recent grads, grad students, parents, professionals—you name it, we’ve got it. If you’re in your twenties or thirties, you’re in!

Our journey began with a bang—a launch party at the vibrant Union Rec in downtown A2, attended by over 55 individuals eager to embrace the new year, the Jewish way. The atmosphere was electric, with people mingling, forming connections, and setting the tone for our exciting new phase.

But amidst the excitement of the new, we also treasure tradition. High holidays and winter festivities are full of tradition, so we brought back some familiar events with a twist. Fall Fun Day made a comeback, this time involving apple picking and mingling with some quirky animals at the Creature Conservancy in neighboring Saline. Havdallaween brought the spookiness with a costume contest, Havdallah under the stars, and, of course, loads of candy.  In November, we all brought our favorite dishes for a warm and nostalgic Friendsgiving Shabbat dinner at a local historic house in Ypsilanti. Wrapping up the year, we celebrated Hannukah together, indulging in latkes and sufganiyot, lighting candles, singing together, and showcasing our creative sides by decorating Ugly Hannukah Sweaters and other accessories. We got to know many new people and appreciated the community during this challenging time for the Jewish community near and far.

Now, get ready for a year of fresh and fun new events. Picture a Happy New Year Hour and Megashabbat, uniting all the 20s/30s Jewish groups in the area. Chilly midwest winter activities on Winter Fun Day will be followed by a cozy Hygge Shabbat, creating an atmosphere of warmth and togetherness. We’ll join Federation’s Main Event, celebrate Purim, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg!

Do you have new event ideas or just have questions? Shoot us an email at nextgena2@jewishannarbor.org. Please reach out; we’re inviting you for coffee, a chat, and a chance to get to know you better. In the end, it’s all about the connections we make and the traditions we embrace at NEXTGen A2. Join us for a relaxed, enjoyable ride!
