The Jewish Federation of Greater Ann Arbor is thrilled to welcome James Griffin to its professional team as Administrative Coordinator. He started in this role in January of this year.

James has a strong professional background in nonprofit administrative work, particularly in faith-based communities. Raised in Walhalla, SC, James earned two bachelor’s degrees from the University of South Carolina, first a BA in Religious Studies and then a BFA in Sculpture.

From South Carolina, James moved to Seattle, WA, where he spent a decade working with several nonprofit organizations. For five years, James was the Office Manager of Seattle Koyasan Shingon Buddhist temple, a Japanese Buddhist community active in interfaith dialogue. James’ community passions also include collective housing and arts advocacy.

“I am delighted that James has joined our team,” said Federation Executive Director Eileen Freed. “James comes to us with stellar professional recommendations that he has already begun to live up to in his short time with us. His eye for detail, focus on process, and technological skills will significantly enhance the Federation’s ability to serve the community.”

Federation’s previous Administrative Coordinator, McKenzie Katz, has moved into the role of Community Relations Manager at the Federation. In this new position, McKenzie will manage the Jewish Community Relations Committee (JCRC) and other community-wide initiatives such as the demographic study of Jewish Washtenaw County and efforts to address local instances of antisemitism.

James and his partner Jawharah recently celebrated their second wedding anniversary and share a home with two feline rapscallions. James is an appreciator of sculpture and animation, collector of rocks and minerals, and eater of fine chocolates.
