On March 13, 250 members of the greater Ann Arbor Jewish community gathered at Washtenaw Community College, plus another 75 watching the virtual livestream, for a moving and uplifting evening. Aaron Dworkin, author of The Poetjournalist, headlined the event with a presentation about his life as a Black, White, Jewish, Jehovah’s Witness adoptee, through poetry and music. In addition, the Second Annual Pillar Award was presented to Jonathan Trobe and Joan Lowenstein for their years of exemplary service to the community in the areas of Federation’s guiding principles: Philanthropy, Engagement, and Convening. The event raised over $80,000 for the Federation’s 2024 Annual Community Campaign, to enrich Jewish life locally, in Israel, and around the world.
