Last week, a bias-motivated assault against a Jewish student occurred in the area of Hill Street and South Forest about 12:45a.m.

The Ann Arbor Police Department (AAPD) has been actively investigating this incident and has corroborated from an independent witness that the assault was perpetrated against the student because he identified as Jewish. There is currently no suspect identified, and the AAPD is reviewing video footage, has interviewed multiple potential witnesses, and is following up on multiple leads.

Unfortunately, this past weekend there were additional incidents involving Jewish students. First, there was an altercation Friday night during a party at a house of seniors from a Jewish fraternity in which a Jewish student was punched. The following night, a group returned and threw glass bottles at the same house. There were police nearby, and it was caught on video. According to the AAPD and campus administration, neither incident is, at this point, considered identity-based.

The AAPD is seeking students or student groups who may be able to provide relevant information and have added a new Ann Arbor Police Silent Witness outreach link, https://aapd.a2gov.org/SilentWitness to alleviate concerns they may have about coming forward.

AAPD Silent Witness allows for anyone with information about these or other incidents to upload a photo or video and provide information they believe may lead to the apprehension of those responsible. The information received is funneled to the investigative staff in an attempt to locate the parties responsible.

We are grateful to the AAPD and Chief Andre Anderson for their commitment to fighting antisemitism and to finding those responsible for last week’s assault.
